For most of the Indian audiences, Shaan is one singer that has been consistently charming them with his boyish looks and innocent voice since day one. He has come a long way from being a successful pop singer to one of the most unique voices in the current generation. The singer is a prominent choice for melodious and romantic tracks, though he has tried hands in various genres like hip-hop, rock, ghazals, etc.

Shaan was born on 30 September 1972 in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, India to Late Manas Mukherjee and Sonali Mukherjee who named him Shantanu Mukherjee. His father was a music director and his grandfather, Jahar Mukherjee, was a lyricist. His sister, Sagarika, is also a singer.

Shaan lost his father at a tender age of 13 which prompted his mother to find work as a singer. Being an avid Kishore Kumar fan, he started singing at a very young age, and few people know that he made his debut in 1989 for the song “Kitni Hai Pyari Pyari Dosti Hamari” from the movie “Parinda.”

He started singing jingles and make remixes in his early days. Then he released a cover album named Q-funk. His major break as an artist came when his album “Tanha Dil” was awarded MTV Asia Music Award for “Best Solo Album.” The title track became a raging success which is still fresh in the memory of Indian music fans for its true-to-life nostalgic appeal.

Three years later he came up with is the second album named “Aksar”. The album too was a huge hit and features several international artists like Blue and Mel C. The more significant aspect of both the albums was that he composed and penned the lyrics for each song himself.

Shaan’s fame opened the door to the Hindi film industry where he sang many hit singles like “Dil Chahta Hai,” “Kal Ho Na Ho,” “Salaam Namaste,” “Hum Tum” and many more. Apart from singing he has made appearances in shows like “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa” on Zee TV and “Antakshari: The Great Challenge” on Star One.

He has had several nominations in Award shows and has been able to bag 2 Filmfare Awards, 3 Zee Cine Awards, and one Star Screen Award.

The singer has also given voice to many regional and international language compositions including Urdu, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali, Konkani, Punjabi, Nepali, English, Hindi, Oriya, Malayalam, Telugu, and Assamese. He married Radhika in 2003 and now is a proud father of two sons, Soham and Shubh.
