Mohit Chauhan can be termed as one of the finest singers from the golden Indian Pop music scene. His silky smooth vocals and a laidback style of singing have given him a distinct identity that is perfect for Sufi and chill tracks. The singer has tried his hands in Tollywood and Kollywood movies as well with a fair share of success. His albums and stage shows have helped him to create an aura of indie feeling in his charisma.
He was born on March 11, 1996, in the town of Nahan, Sirmaur District, Himachal Pradesh to B.K. Rana and Krishna Rana. Mohit initiated his studies from St. Xavier’s School, Delhi and continued his education from his native state. He graduated with a Master of Science in Geology from the Dharamshala College in Himachal Pradesh. Back in the days Mohit wanted to be an actor and became part of NSD to brush his skills and dreamt of being in FTII. He inherited his liking for music from his grandfather who was a classical singer himself.
One must know that he never received formal training in music but is still able to play harmonica, flute, mouth organ, and guitar fluently. He started his journey with the band Silk Route with his schoolmates Kem Trivedi, Kenny Puri, and Atul Mittal. The band hit a glass ceiling with their track “Dooba Dooba” from the album Boondein in 1998, which became an overnight success. He came out with another album named “Pehchaan” which was applauded by masses and critics alike. After a decade of receiving success the band dissolved in 2008 but it did not affect Mohit’s route to success. He released a solo album named “Kalam” which worked on poems written by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
His Bollywood career started in 2002 with “Pehli Nazar Mein Dari Thi” for the movie Road. In 2002 he was part of the singing reality show named Mission Ustaad on 9x teaming with Vasundhara Das. Again, he again came in a reality show where he leads the team, Mohit’s Fighters, in Music Ka Maha Muqqabla.
Mohit’s work in “Khoon Chala,” “Masakali,” “Tum Se Hi” and “Tune Jo Na Kaha” was heavily praised throughout the country. He has been awarded Filmfare awards, three Zee Cine Awards, an IFFA Award, and one Screen Award. For his work in the industry, he was designated on 81st place on Forbes India list of 2012 celebrity list.
