Vice President Venkaiah Naidu will present the National Film Awards to the winners today. But Amitabh Bachchan will have to skip this year’s National Film Awards ceremony. Bachchan, 77, tweeted on Sunday that he would have to give the ceremony a miss as he was down with fever and doctors had advised him to avoid traveling.
“Down with fever ..! Not allowed to travel .. will not be able to attend National Award tomorrow in Delhi .. so unfortunate .. my regrets ..,” the veteran actor tweeted: “So unfortunate”.
The Piku actor was admitted to Mumbai’s Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital for a few days for a routine check-up in November this year. However, it was also reported that he was admitted due to liver ailment. Amitabh Bachchan has won four National Film Awards for Best Actor through his illustrious career, last winning it for his performance in the 2015 film Piku.
In 2018, President Kovind had presented only a handful few sets of awards during the ceremony which was divided into two phases. The first set of awards were conferred by Union Ministers Smriti Irani and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, while the President presented the second lot. Later, President Ram Nath Kovind will host a high-tea for all the winners at the Rashtrapati Bhavan where Bachchan will be presented with Indian cinema’s biggest honor, Javadekar said during the National Film awards ceremony in Delhi.
