You can always have high hopes for a movie which is being applauded by industry veterans like Rajkumar Hirani.  After a long time we have come across a movie which provides legitimacy to the horror genre prevalent in our industry.  Tumbbad movie is directed by Rahi Anil Barve and talks about a village of the same name which holds enormous treasure preserved by a goddess who created this world.

The movie is based on work of Marathi writer Narayan Dharap that talks about morality and negatives of being greedy in life. Vinayak, Sohum Shah, plays the protagonist of the movie whose selfishness is shamed by his own son. Thus, the story runs through generations of a family which proves to be a spectacle ride of cinematography for us.

It talks about a goddess who holds earth in her womb which is placed in the village. Throughout his exploration of the cave Vinayak meets his inner demons which are far scarier than a supernatural entity trying to haunt him. Although, there are some plots in the movie which are left unanswered but that’s not what this movie should be watched for. It is a brilliant amalgamation of stunning images, visual contrasts, art, costumes and camera work.

There are many sub-plots in the movie which are cautiously revealed one after the other. Without having a demon to scare us all it relies on grave stories that make us feel the real evil that haunted our country before independence. Hence, it will be surprise for those who are waiting for ugly monsters or some sudden cheap scares.

Apart from being loved by the masses the movie has also been praised by critics alike. Majority of seasoned reviewers have given it a positive rating mainly because of its unique plot and introduction of a new touch to horror cinema. It is important to note that the movie enjoys a rating of 88 percent on the Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer which is exceptional for a production which is not backed by finance juggernauts. Meanwhile IMDB has rated this movie with 8.9 stars out of 10 that pushes it into an elite list of cinema where only the best reside.

All in all, the movie is not a gore flick but a rollercoaster of intense storytelling which leaves you thrilled to the bone. We advise you to adjust your busy schedule for cinema which is worthy of being a super hit other than regular soulless masala movies.

Finally, after waiting for a long, Thugs of Hindostan is ready to appear with a bang on the Box Office. The movie has lined up a talented star cast like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Lloyd Owen. Aditya Chopra is producing the movie with director Vijay Krishna Acharya under the Yash Raj films banner.

Talking about the music, Ajay-Atul are doing their work in the music department and John Stewart Eduri is contributing to the background score. Till date, only two songs are out in the market, which are Suraiyya and Vashmalle. The third one is out is a teaser of Manzoor-e-Khuda and on its first look it looks fine.

As we already mentioned, the duo of Ajay and Atul Gogavale are the music composers in Thugs of Hindostan. The filmmakers earlier wanted to rope in the popular and proficient trio of Shankar-Ehsan-Loy for the film but the consistently delayed schedule left a question mark on their participation. Finally, the trio left the movie for another period film Manikarnika- the Queen of Jhansi and Ajay and Atul took up the humongous job of making music for this period film.

Suraiyya’s lyrical video is out and the song is very nice. Amitabh Bhattacharya looks very good with his lyrics this time. Ajay-Atul have done a great work with the composition and made a very catchy music which is the demand of the scene. The music have both Indian and Western tastes in it. Vishal Dadlani and Shreya Ghoshal sang the song very beautifully and it will definitely make you move your feet.

The next song out is Vashmalle and it’s a celebration song. The song is gaining popularity as two big actors Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan are performing together for the first time. Amitabh Bhattacharya again wrote an impressive song. Vishal Dadlani and Sukhwinder Singh added power to the song with their fantastic voice. The song is excellent and hope it will be a hit.

The new song which is ready to bang is Manzoor-e-Khuda. It’s a new released song and in first impression it seemed to be quite an energetic song. Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan and Sukhwinder Singh performed the exceptionally well. Amitabh Bhattacharya has written the lyrics very nicely and Ajay-Atul made the music superbly.

Overall, the songs out till date are superb and have a very peppy beat. The songs are composed very beautifully by Ajay-Atul music and Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics lends soul to this music. Suraiyya is the most liked track out of the three songs, thanks to the mind-blowing dance moves of Katrina.

The success of the Dum Laga Ke Haisha forces director Sharat Katariya to work again with Anu Malik and Varun Grover. The movie released back in year 2015 and proved to be a hit at the Indian box office. The movie earned many awards for its famous song Moh Moh Ke Dhaage sung by Papon. The song was written by Varun Grover and composed by Anu Malik. Again, the trio comes up with its new film Sui Dhaaga-Made in India. The movie has done a great business at the box office and the music feels good.

The album of Sui Dhaaga have 5 songs which are sung by Papon, Ronkini Gupta, Divya Kumar and Sukhwinder Singh. So, here’s a slight view on its music compositions.

Chaav Laaga – The song released on 27 august 2018. Papon and Ronkini Gupta did a great job in it. Varun Grover had written this beautiful song and Anu Malik’s blessed this song with his brilliant composition. It’s a romantic track but when compared with Moh Moh ke Dhaage, the last composition they done together, you find it lagging somewhere in emotions and soul. Overall it’s a sweet track and sounds good to the ears.

Khatar Patar – This song came out on 8 September 2018. Papon has done a fine work with his voice. Anu Malik impress with his music. The lyrics are fine and fits the situation of the song. The song’s emotions are better when teamed with its visuals.

Tu Hi Aham – Ronkini Gupta sung this track beautifully. It’s a romantic track written by Varun Grover and Anu Malik again impresses with his music. It is one of the best songs of the album which would have been able to catch everyone attention if it was promoted well.

Sui Dhaaga – It’s a title track of the album but was not able to leave any impact on the listeners. However, Divya Kumar sung this song very well.

Sab Badhiya Hai – It’s a promotional track that released on 21 September 2018. On the request of Varun Dhawan, the song was added to the album. Sukhwinder Singh, with his energetic voice and Anu Malik’s music made it an attractive song.

The album Sui Dhaaga-Made in India released on 21 September 2018. On the whole, the album is good. Some tracks impress very well while some disappoint too. Tu Hi Aham is the only song that stands out in comparison to the other tracks. We can also say that the expectations of the listeners are literally murdered with this mix-tape. None of the song was able leave any significant impact on audience like Moh Moh Ke Dhaage did in 2015.

In the year 2007, Vipul Shah’s Namaste London rocked Bollywood with its groundbreaking music. He had Himesh Reshammiya at that time, with some impressive compositions like Main Jahan Rahoon, Dilruba, Rafta, Annan Faanan and many more. Now he’s back with its sequel Namaste England but this time he has Mannan Shah working on the film as a music director.

The expectation rises as Vipul Shah is known for his good musical taste which we saw earlier too in his movies. Namaste England album is composed of seven songs. Javed Akhtar, Master Rakesh and Badshah’s lyrics and Mannan Shah, Badshah, Rishi Rich’s music impresses in part in these compositions. So here’s a close look on the soundtracks of Namaste England.

Atif Aslam impresses again with his romantic number Tere liye with a newcomer Akansha Bhandari. Javed Akhtar has written the song very nicely. Mannan Shah’s music makes this romantic number a hit and top at the list but it isn’t a great composition.

Bhare Bazaar is a party song and at second place in the list. Vishal Dadlani with Payal Dev and B Praak added power to the track. Master Rakesh has written this chartbuster with Badshah, who does his usual rap magic in the song. He also tries his hands in music composition with Rishi Rich. It’s a powerful track and everyone is enjoying it too but again, its not genius.

Dhoom Dhadakka is at third place in the album. It’s a celebration song sung by Shahid Mallya and Antara Mitra. The song gave an ordinary feel when you hear it and fails to do any Dhoom Dhadakka which is just opposite to its title.

The forth in the lineup is Tu Meri Main Tera, which is a melancholy track. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan with Shadab Faridi and Altamash Faridi performed the song beautifully. Javed Akhtar with his lyrics and Mannan Shah with his music tried to impress but it failed to mark among a masses.

Kya Kahoon Jaaneman is next on the order and Shashaa Tirupati performs it very well in her tempting voice. Javed Akhtar’s lyrics and Mannan Shash’s music doesn’t seem to impress that much this time.

Mannan Shah tried his own voice for the track Ziddi Hai Dil. His music and Javed Akhtar’s lyrics all together proved to be a disappointment.

The last track in the album is Proper Patola. It’s a reprise version and proved a hit like old one did. Badshah along with Diljit Dosanjh and Aastha Gill rocked this time too.

Overall, Namaste England is a very average album and no song does particularly well.

Loveyatri is a romantic movie inspired from the Telegu movie Devadasu. The movie is produced under the Salman Khan Production house with Aayush Sharma, Warina Hussain and director Abhiraj Minawala making their debut. The movie released near Navratri festival and you can find the essence of it in the music too.

Tanishk Bagchi is the music director and efforts have also been put in by Lijo George-Dj Chetas and Kaushik-Akash-Guddu (JAM8). The lyrics are written by Tanishk Bagchi, Shabbir Ahmed, Darshan Raval, Manoj Muntashir, Yo Honey Singh, Badshah, Niren Bhatt and Hommie Dilliwala. The music album have 9 songs in it and released by T-Series on 3 October 2018.

The most liked track Chogada is based on Avinash Vyas,’s dandiya-raas song, “Hey Ranglo”. This time, the song is written by Darshan Raval and Shabbir Ahmed and sung by Darshan Raval and Asees Kaur. The music is composed by Lijo George-Dj Chetas. Darshan has done a great job in it and also impressed by doing a solo of an unplugged version of it.

Tanishk Bagchi has again done a great job with his lyrics and music in the song Akh Lad Jave. Asees Kaur with Jubin Nautiyal sung well and Badshah’s rap in the song made it a hit. The song is so nice that you are going to play it again and again.

Atif Aslam also impressed with his voice in the song Tera Hua. Manoj Muntashir with his lyrics and Tanishk Bagchi’s music turns out to be a very good number. It have an unplugged version which is also a great hit.

With Shabbir Ahmed’s lyrics and Neha Kakkar, Palak Muchchal, Udit Narayan and Raja Hassan’s voice Dholinda also become a hit. The track has a soothing and traditional feel in it.

Tanishk Bagchi’s music with Shabbir Ahmed, Yo Yo Honey Singh and Hommie Dilliwala’s lyrics, helped Rangtaari become a hit. Dev Negi performs the song very well and it has Yo Yo Honey Singh’s rap.

The album has a Loveyatri Title Song which is sung by Divya Kumar. Niren Bhatt lyrics and JAM8 music. The song is good but not very impressive.

The album also have a Loveyatri Mashup, which is a fusion of all the numbers in it. With Lijo George-Dj Chetas music, the track sounds lovely.

On the whole Loveyatri album is composed of some very good soundtracks. The movie did not do well at the Indian Box office but the music impresses a lot. The compositions are nice and everyone is admiring them.

It is difficult to go wrong with a movie that has Rajkummar Rao in it. 5 Weddings is one film that manages to tumble in a see saw motion, handling the naivety of Nargis Fakhri as an Indian-origin journalist from the US and the charm of a regular cop, Rajkummar Rao.

The film has some big names playing a variety of characters on the screen. Rao plays Officer Harbhajan Singh, Fakhri is Shania Dhaliwal and Bo Derek plays Mandy Singh Dhaliwal. Soha Ali Khan is also seen in the movie playing Sanjana Kishore Ghosh. There is Candy Clark in the mix too which adds to the Indian-American drama’s many layers.

5 Weddings is a movie that begins as an innocent adventure. Shania get a chance to go to India and write a feature on multiple Indian weddings. There she meets Harbhajan and falls in love with him during her journey. Harbhajan, on the other hand, is spying on Shania as he believes she is on an espionage mission. The movie begins with light-hearted scenes but slowly turns into a revelation of the life of Hijras or transgenders.

Rao is effortless in the movie but he appears to be sleepwalking in some of the scenes. Fakhri’s acting tropes need a lot more polishing. She tries her best to appear serious and animated on screen but nothing much comes out of her performance. The other characters in the movie are unidimensional and do not appeal much on a deeper scale.

The subject of the movie, however, is bold and it does touch some sensitive points of the Indian society that not many people would like to identify with. Making this movie was a bold move for Namrata Singh Gujral, who was originally set to play the role of Shania alongside Harbhajan Mann in 2008. After battling cancer for a decade, she returned to the project but this time, behind the camera.

There is nothing wrong with the story or subject matter of the movie. The casting, however, could be questionable. Also, seasoned actors like Derek, Clark and Rao need a lot more mature scripts to work on. While the story presents promise, the overall treatment of the film looks half baked. If the movie released 10 years ago and in Punjabi (my opinion), it would have not just earned applause but become a pathbreaking work if given the right treatment.

At the moment, 5 Weddings isn’t a bad film to watch. You can buy the tickets and have a good time if you don’t have very high expectations.

If trailers are predictors of a film’s fate at the box office, Thugs of Hindustan will have to release the second trailer as its saving grace. The much-awaited movie starring Amir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles, with Katrina Kaif adding a dash of glamour is set to release on November 8, and its trailer launch left everybody laughing, at least on Twitter. Here is our review of the Thugs of Hindustan trailer.

Premise

Thugs of Hindostan takes you on a nostalgia trip. Amir Khan has gone back into the Lagaan era, but his ways seem much different than the hardworking Bhuvan. He is portraying a scrupulous chap called Firangi. Bachchan, on the other hand, plays a seafarer.

Katrina’s role was unclear from the trailer as she is seen dancing throughout the trailer, except for one scene, where she is onboard a ship.

The trailer shows an ideological fight between two Indian men in the colonial era with lots of singing and dancing. It is one of the most ambitious projects in the Indian film industry after Baahubali. The film is based on a novel on an 1839 novel called ‘Confessions of a Thug’ by Philip Meadows Taylor.

Criticism

Twitter often fires up when new movie trailers are released, and the movie was trending in India at the time of trailer release. The conversation, however, revolved around two topics- the movie’s questionable VFX and its striking comparison to Pirates of the Caribbean series.

In one of the opening scenes of the trailer, some low-quality VFX of ships sailing the sea caught everyone’s attention. The last period film criticized so heavily for its effects was Mohenjo Daro- which was hailed as a thunderous fail by the moviegoers even with a big star, big director and an exemplary budget.

The second comparison, which is ‘on-your-face’ during the entire trailer is the movie’s Indian rendition of Pirates of the Caribbean. Khan is clearly taking a feather from Johnny Depp’s cap and touting it as his own in the trailer. His mannerisms, actions, and style all are reminiscent of Depp’s Jack Sparrow.

What to expect from the movie?

The whole premise looks clear from the trailer- the movie will contain some glamour, some patriotism and two stalwarts of Indian film industry on the opposite sides of the war. The fate of the movie cannot be predicted yet. It looks like a big-budget masala outing that Bollywood is famous for and the period setting is perfect for Khan who has previously made two movies from the genre with a 50 percent success rate.

Unless a new trailer or song arrives, you can enjoy hundreds of Thugs of Hindostan memes going viral on the internet.
