Being one of the leading playback singers in Bollywood Neha Kakkar has become not only a youth icon but also an inspirational figure. She was born in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand but shifted to Delhi and lived there for most of her life. Her brother, Tony Kakkar, is a music composer who played a significant role in forwarding her musical career.
She completed her studies from New Holy Public School and also competed in the second season of music reality show Indian Idol while she was still studying in class XI. Her small age and commendable talent made her a household name. Although she did not win the title, her popularity soared to new heights due to her unique vocal quality. She also grabbed initial fame by uploading a song on YouTube about Shah Rukh Khan which was later termed as “SRK Anthem.”
After making a name for herself, Neha kick-started her singing career in 2008 with her maiden music album named “Neha-The rock star” which was composed by Meet Brothers. There was no looking back as critics and audiences were impressed by her songs which opened new doors in Indian Film Industry.
Stepping up to the expectations, she nailed super hit songs like “Manali Trance” from the movie The Shaukeens, “Sunny Sunny” from movie Yaariyan,” “Aao Raja” with singer Honey Singh from movie Gabbar is Back, “London Thumakda” from movie Queen, “Dilbar” from movie Satyameva Jayate.
One of her major accolades came when she started judging Indian Idol season 10 that has made her a success story like no other artist. Apart from that, she has been a regular name in the reality show space of the television industry. In 2014, she was seen enjoying Comedy Circus Ke Taansen and also judged Zee TV’s singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs.
She was nominated for 2017 Female Vocalist of the Year for her work in the title track of Badrinath ki Dulhania. Although, her name is not considered among the greatest in Bollywood yet the sheer reputation among the young listeners is enough to call her a rising superstar. Neha’s heightened emotional reactions during his reality TV days to participants who had a sob story, turned her into a viral meme. However, she later noted that those emotional outbursts were because she remembered the days when her father used to sell samosas outside her elder sister Sonu Kakkar’s college and other kids used to tease her sister.
