Her brother, Tony Kakkar, is a music composer who played a significant role in forwarding her musical career.
She completed her studies from New Holy Public School and also competed in the second season of music reality show Indian Idol while she was still studying in class XI. Her small age and commendable talent made her a household name. Although she did not win the title, her popularity soared to new heights due to her unique vocal quality. She also grabbed initial fame by uploading a song on YouTube about Shah Rukh Khan which was later termed as “SRK Anthem.”
After making a name for herself, Neha kick-started her singing career in 2008 with her maiden music album named “Neha-The rock star” which was composed by Meet Brothers. There was no looking back as critics and audiences were impressed by her songs which opened new doors in Indian Film Industry.

Neha’s heightened emotional reactions during his reality TV days to participants who had a sob story, turned her into a viral meme. However, she later noted that those emotional outbursts were because she remembered the days when her father used to sell samosas outside her elder sister Sonu Kakkar’s college and other kids used to tease her sister.
