Mika Singh is not only a celebrated singer but also a songwriter, composer, and performer. He is the youngest brother of legendary Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi who himself has a big name in Indian music scenario.
Mika was born on June 10, 1977, in Patna, Bihar and his real name is Amrik Singh. His father Late Ajmer Singh Chandan was not only a trained classical musician but also an amateur wrestler while his mom, Balbir Kaur, had been a state level amateur wrestler with a keen interest in folk music. Mika was able to learn tabla by the age of eight and harmonium by 12 and mastered guitar by 14. In his early days, he used to be a kirtan singer before making it big on the bhangra scene.
He started his musical career with his first album ‘Saawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag’ in 1998 which was equally appreciated by critics as well as the mass audience. Afterward, he managed to release a number of albums like Ishq Brandy (2000), Gabru (2001), Jaan Qurban, and Something Something (2006).
He started his Bollywood journey with songs like “Dil Tod Ke Na Ja” in 2006 for the movie Pyaar Ke Side Effects and “Dil Mein Baji Guitar” for Apna Sapna Money Money. These songs were instant hits that made him a household name. Due to his songs like “Mauja Hi Mauja” for Jab We Met he got labeled as a hitmaker due to unique vocal quality.
Apart from being a great bhangra singer he also tried his luck in four Punjabi movies Mitti (2010), Loot (2011), Wrath Kapoor (2010) and a Hindi movie named Loot (2011). He was also part of a big controversy when he kissed Rakhi Sawant without her permission on her birthday. Due to this event, he was publically shamed by media houses and gained a ton of negative PR. As of now both of them have settled their issues and are good friends now. Mika has always been a regular part in reality shows making his presence in the 2011 edition of Comedy Circus. He also became part of a music reality show named “Music Ka Maha Muqabla” where he served as a mentor and team captain of “Mika’s Blasters” aired on Star Plus.
He has been nominated for various awards and was able to win Best Singer award from Indian Television Academy Awards for his work in “Mission Sapne” in 2014.
